Chippewa Falls YMCA to Host Free Health Screenings
Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin (June 19, 2024)
The Chippewa Falls YMCA, in a collaborative effort with the Chippewa Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) and Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire, is proud to announce a series of free health screening events aimed at fostering a healthier community. These events will offer vital health checks at no cost to participants, empowering individuals with knowledge about their health status.

These screenings are being offered to the community as a part of a collaborative commitment to improving the well-being of our residents. The Chippewa Falls YMCA, in partnership with CHIP and Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire, are providing comprehensive health screenings including Hemoglobin A1c, blood pressure, BMI, and body fat percentage. These screenings are crucial for early detection and management of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes.

EVENT DETAILS:
Dates: June 24, July 15, and August 26
Time: 9 AM – 12 PM
Location: Chippewa Falls YMCA
No registration required
Open to the entire community

"One of the goals of CHIP is reducing the incidence of chronic disease, especially type 2 diabetes, among Chippewa County residents through increasing access to nutritious foods and raising awareness about chronic disease prevention," says Stephanie Abbe, CHIP Chronic Disease Prevention Action Team Coordinator and Nutrition Division Manager/WIC Director. "Knowing your numbers is one of the first steps in preventing and reducing chronic disease. We are fortunate to have great partners such as the YMCA, Mayo Clinic Health Systems & Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire to provide this free opportunity for our community."

In conjunction with the health screenings, the Monday Market at the Y will continue to support healthy food choices for all, especially those participating in the FoodShare program. Patrons with SNAP/EBT cards can double their purchasing power for fresh, nutritious foods utilizing the Market Match Program. The Market Match Program allows a match of up to $10 per week graciously sponsored by Northwestern Bank.

Mayo Clinic Health Systems is funding free travel vouchers to help ensure transportation barriers do not hinder community members from accessing these valuable services. To receive a free travel voucher please contact Carrie Mathwig at 715-861-2352.

“The YMCA is more than a gym, we are a hub for community health needs. We are delighted to continue our partnership with CHIP and Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire and provide these free screenings to our community during our Farmers Market this summer.” added Carrie Mathwig, Executive Director of the Chippewa Falls YMCA and CHIP-Chronic Disease Prevention Action Team Co-Chair.
