YMCA of the Chippewa Valley Celebrates National Senior Health & Fitness Day with Free Access for Seniors

Eau Claire, Wisconsin - May 22, 2024

The YMCA of the Chippewa Valley announces its participation in the National Senior Health & Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 29, by offering free entry to all individuals aged 55 and above at its membership branches, including the Chippewa Falls YMCA, Eau Claire Downtown YMCA, and Eau Claire South YMCA. The John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center & L.E. Phillips YMCA Sports Center will also have offerings for the community that day. This nationwide health and fitness awareness day is aiming to promote the importance of regular physical activity for those 55+. The YMCA will showcase what they are doing to improve senior health in our community.

As a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the YMCA of the Chippewa Valley encourages local seniors to take advantage of this opportunity to explore a variety of activities and programs designed to promote wellness and foster connections within the community.

"National Senior Health & Fitness Day is a wonderful occasion for seniors in our community to make, renew, or revitalize their commitment to live healthier lives through better health and fitness," said Derek White, CEO & President of the YMCA of the Chippewa Valley. "The Y is excited to open its doors to all seniors on this special day and to offer our support and resources to help them achieve their wellness goals."

The YMCA of the Chippewa Valley's branches will offer a range of activities tailored to the interests and needs of seniors, including group exercise classes, bingo, pickleball, tennis, and community facility tours.

This event not only highlights the YMCA's inclusive environment but also underscores the importance of physical activity and social interaction in the lives of older adults. The YMCA's friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere provide the perfect setting for seniors to take steps towards a healthier lifestyle while enjoying the camaraderie of peers.

“Our hope is that seniors find ways to get involved in their health at the YMCA and decide to get involved on a larger scale as a YMCA Member or program participant. At the Y, we are transforming the way we think about aging and activity,” White shared.

The YMCA of the Chippewa Valley offers Adult & Family Memberships, along with a Senior & Senior Household Memberships for those 62 and older.
